 Pocket Billiards
Caesars Southern Indiana: January 21-29, 2022.
The almost error free encounter had them tied at 9, Gorst broke when his cue ball lobbed into the air and arced into the side pocket. There is reason Filler’s nickname is “Killer.”
BIG Foot has a new champion. And, Joshua is $16,000 richer.
Not to worry, Accu-Stats captured all the action for DVD, Subscription Service, and cherry-picked for their FREE YouTube Channel.
Now to the single-elimination, with one buy-back, All-Around Champion activities.
Short Rack. Race to 3. Alternate break, foul on all balls.
457 entrants could not be restrained from returning to Indiana’s most treasured torture chamber.
With the DCC Buy-Back formula, after every round, winner’s and loser’s names are reshuffled and redrawn. As the events are not seeded means that anyone could run into anyone. It’s a potential minefield.

With 1316 total entrants, the 23rd incarnation of the Diamond Derby City Classic surpassed the pre- pandemic stat as did the $346,000 prize money.
The Bank Pool, One Pocket, and 9-Ball events each accumulate points that determine an All-Around Champion who is awarded an additional $20,000.
Diamond’s president Chad Scharlow was elated. “Needless to say, we are forever grateful to our primary sponsors, Caesars Southern Indiana, Simonis Cloth, and Aramith Balls.
“But most importantly, where would we be without the international field of competitors and their continued support? It’s truly humbling to host the world’s greatest players on our Indiana doorstep.”
“IncludingTheG.O.A.T:EfrenReyes,” added DCC creator Greg Sullivan. “It’s a real compliment to have Efren return, year after year–especially as he is always threatening to retire,” laughed Greg.
The 67-year-old Reyes registered in all 3 events. As a 5-time All-Around titlist, he has captured more than any other mortal. One title still evaded him; Bank Pool Champion.
54 / SUMMER 2022
Let’s get to the action.
The Derby has an additional non- point bearing event that simultaneously takes place in the Accu-Stats TV Arena:
Format: 16 players; Race to 11; single-elimination; alternate break; foul on all balls; no jump cues; all balls pocketed count. Germany’s Joshua Filler was in fine form. He had to be as he drew a slew of World, US Open, and Euro Tour Champions:
He first faced Greece’s Alex Kazakis, followed by Filipino Roberto Gomez, Finland’s Mika Immonen and, finally, Muscovite Fedor Gorst.
Cuetec sponsored Fedor Gorst had eliminated Spain’s Francisco Sanchez Ruiz, England’s Darren Appleton, Scotland’s Jayson Shaw until he earned the right
to fight Filler.
