Four—Secret Portrait Painter
“I have another secret,” said DJ, the real live artist. “If you can stay for a while . . .”
“I can stay,” said Connor quickly. “I can definitely stay.”
“We can stay,” said Tad and Toni together.
“I can certainly stay,” said Aimi.
DJ, the real live artist, laughed. Grami laughed. “We can all stay,” said Grami.
“What’s the other secret?” asked Aimi
“Yes,” said Tad, Toni, and Connor. “What’s the other secret?”
“The other secret,” said DJ, “came in the mail from
the zoo keeper. It’s a movie about the chimpanzee who learned American Sign Language.”
“DJ told me about this earlier on the phone,” said Grami, “so I brought sandwiches and bananas.”
“Sandwiches!” cried Tad. “Did I hear sandwiches and bananas? I’m hungry. Where are they?”
“I’m hungry,” said Toni.
“Me, too,” said Aimi.
“We’re all hungry,” said Connor.
“They’re in the brown picnic basket in the trunk of
the car,” said Grami.
“I’d send Solly to help you get them,” said DJ, “but
you might not get any. At least no bananas, if you get my drift.”
“Then by all means let’s not send Solly,” said Tad and everyone laughed.
