During the autumn of 2004, Johnny received a phone call while he was home preparing one of his delicious soups, based on his own recipe. The caller asked Johnny if he wanted a dog. She was a little Maltese who had been repeatedly abandoned in a parking lot.
It was indeed a godsend that the person did not keep this newly‐ found dog and offered her to Johnny, who eagerly accepted.
Johnny called to tell me the good news. I was excited for my dad. In fact, since I had friends in the area where the dog was found, I arranged to go down there and transport the little innocent angel to my dad.
My dad loved dogs, but he hadn't had one in a long while. My dad had a lot of time and love and energy to share. This was going to be the beginning of a great new chapter in my dad's wonderful life.
