TRANSFORMING THE INDUSTRY
Another key focus for for SMF last year was to to assist companies to to transform their businesses through business business model innovation and review We successfully helped many manufacturing companies to to review and and transform their business models and and to to achieve innovation- driven productivity These accomplishments were achieved through initiatives such
as as as Business Model Innovation (BMI) Masterclass Local Enterprise and Association Development (LEAD) projects Lean Enterprise Accelerated Programme (LEAP) and Collaborative Industry Projects (CIP) To date Singapore Innovation & Productivity Institute (SiPi) has implemented more than 100 productivity projects and and engaged more than 4 000 manufacturing and and engineering SMEs since its inception with the support of SPRING Singapore SMF continued to showcase solutions in in in support of of the the future of of manufacturing at the the Manufacturing Solutions Expo (MSE) For its third edition visitorship was 25 per cent higher than that of previous year In total this annual tradeshow attracted
more than 4 000 visitors across across 26 countries countries with 85 exhibitors across across 22 countries countries representing more than 100 international brands UNIFYING VOICE FOR MANUFACTURING
The report by the the Committee on on the the Future Economy (CFE) that was released in February 2017 seeks to position Singapore well for the future with its key economic strategies It was encouraging that the the CFE had recommended to to retain the the manufacturing sector as one of of the the key pillars of of of Singapore economy at 20 per cent of of GDP Recognising that the industry is is undergoing structural changes SMF is providing a a a a a a a a wide-range of initiatives that aimed for for both recovery and transformation of businesses with innovation and internationalisation in in in in in mind Representing the interest of our manufacturing community SMF Standards Development Organisation (SMF-SDO) has worked with our industry industry leaders and players to upgrade our industry industry To date SMF-SDO has reviewed and and completed more than 260 standards standards and and and promoted standards standards to 1800 organisations SMF-SDO has been working on on a a a a a a a a a a number of standards to enable our manufacturing companies to be fully ready for for upcoming transformation and and technological innovations such
as robotics and and addictive manufacturing Three (3) interest interest groups were formed within SMF to meet growing interests – (1) Digital Commerce (2) Testing Inspection and and and Certification and and and (3) Cleaning and and and Material Protection A new subsidiary the Singapore PMC Certification Pte Ltd was established in in June 2016 and its certification is is recognized by SPRING Singapore for funding in in projects REDEFINING OUR FUTURE
Last year year we celebrated the SMF’s
84 years of championing manufacturing and was privileged to have Minister for Trade & Industry Industry (Industry) Mr S Iswaran Iswaran as our our Guest-of-Honour During his speech Minister Iswaran Iswaran commended SMF as a a a a a a a a a valuable
partner and “a good example of a a a a a a a a a a a a proactive TAC that has worked with the the government to upgrade the the capabilities of its member companies” The next financial year 2017 will mark SMF’s
re-definition of manufacturing into the the future With the the emergence
of disruptive technologies new business models and increasing digital contents in in in in in products/services SMF will embrace them in in our services services and and programmes to benefit members and and the manufacturing community SMF will support our government’s Industry Transformation drives and initiatives while anchoring on on on our strategic thrusts of Collaboration Innovation Productivity and Talent Development I would like to to take this opportunity
