When the session adjourned, Roger Sherman walked to the Graff House with Jefferson. Sherman read the declaration and nodded his silent approval as he went along. He did not have any changes or corrections to be made.
Robert Livingston, the fifth member of the Committee of Five, was not available to read a draft of the declaration. Because of family matters, he had left Philadelphia in early June to return to his home in New York.
