estled in the upper northwest corner of Alabama right next to the Tennessee River is the beautiful town of Florence.
This small town in the area known as The Shoals contains lots of history, much of
which has influenced today’s music scene. With at least 17 active music studios in the area, it is guaranteed that someone is creating music here every day. It’s a town overflowing with creative energy and talented people that are around
every corner.
Two of the oldest standing studios in The
Shoals have made musical recordings for world renowned artists like Aretha Franklin, Cher, Steven Tyler and Otis Redding, just to name a few. It’s even home to the ‘Father of the Blues’, W.C. Handy.
Florence not only contains a rich music history, but it also holds architectural history with the only Frank Lloyd Wright home in the state of Alabama. It also has the oldest four-year public university in the state, The University of North Alabama. It’s ranked number seventeen among public regional universities in the South. They have majors and minors that equip students in every- thing from accounting to the entertainment industry.
With the diverse activities, Florence and The
Shoals is a place for people of all ages and interests. It’s a perfect mix of economic growth, quality family living, and delicious
culinary experiences.
The Shoals is a great place to settle down and raise a family. The area is safe and the cost of living and real estate is affordable. However, it’s an equally great vacation destination. They have the familiar big-name hotels like Marriott. But they also have two incredible and historic boutique hotels that give a more local experience. This is true even for the food experiences. You’re able to stay in a comfort zone with chains you’re familiar with, or (if you’re like us) dive head first into Florence’s local culture.
