wheat. Leave the weeds alone until harvest time. Then I’ll tell my workers to gather the weeds and tie them up and burn them. But I’ll have them store the wheat in my barn.’” (CEV Matthew 13:24-30)
This parable refers to the two types of unconscious impressions: pure and impure. Through spiritual practice, an aspirant reduces the impure impressions of attachment, hatred, and egoistic vision. In spite of his best efforts of exercising utmost vigilance in promoting pure impressions and eradicating those that are detrimental, certain negative impressions will continue to lurk in the unconscious. These, however, do not obstruct the rise of intuitive vision—“the wheat that is gathered in the barn.” With intuitive vision, the impure impressions are spontaneously burned up in their entirety.
3. The Parable of the Mustard Seed
Jesus told them another story:
“The Kingdom of Heaven is like what happens when a farmer plants a mustard seed in a eld. Although it is the smallest of all seeds, it grows larger than any garden plant and becomes a tree. Birds even come and nest on its branches.” (CEV Matthew 13:31—32)
