A person who practices truth must honor his word. If you have promised something that is righteous, ful ll your promise. However, if you have promised something that will hurt another person, it is better to break that type of promise. Being punctual and observing time also promotes the practice of truthfulness. Time is of great importance in all dealings with human beings. If you tell a person to meet you at a particular time, but you show up an hour late, that’s practicing falsehood.
Thus, keeping your promises to others, punctuality, sincerity, and humility are all expressions of the practice of truth on an everyday level. All these help lead you to the advanced practice of Truth, allowing your mind to  ow towards the highest Truth—God.
The Power of Truthfulness
Since the practice of satyam implies an all- sided integration of personality based upon the vision of truth, it becomes a source of tremendous spiritual power. Raja Yoga Sutras states: “Satya Pratishthaayaam Kriyaa-phalaashrayattwam.”— “By being established in truthfulness, a Yogi acquires the power of achieving the fruit of whatever action he performs.” This implies that when a Sage utters a word, that word will not go in vain. The projects he adopts will not fail.
