GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a a a a a a a a a a a national grant program organized and administered by the United States Department of Education Since its founding in in 1999 GEAR UP has helped millions of students from all over the country complete high school prepare for college and enter competitive undergraduate programs The Bronx Institute has participated in in in GEAR UP programs since 1999 serving over 20 000 Bronx students Bronx GEAR UP Thrives (BGUT) serves a cohort of 2 175 students from nine middle schools BGUT BGUT will serve these students through the the the year 2028 as they complete high school and enter college W

GEAR UP Academic Advisement: As members of BGUT students are able to participate in in intensive academicadvisementactivities Duringadvisement sessions students are taught practical strategies for achieving academic success including the development of effective time management techniques understanding the importance of maintaining a a a a a a a solid academic record exam-taking tips and and strategies and and using resources effectively These activities also include tutoring and mentoring and in in school coursework designed to to make the transition to high school easier THRIVES
Afterschool Enrichment: BGUT holds afterschool academic enrichment classes in math sciences social studies and other core subjects BGUT also organizes “Read to Succeed” and book clubs focused on grade-appropriate home library texts STEM STEM Saturday Academy: BGUT offers a a a a STEM STEM Saturday Academy for students consisting of rigorous academic academic coursework academic academic advisement and test prep Summer Success Institute: BGUT is currently organizing the 2023 Summer Success Institute for 7th and 8th graders Students will participate in a a a five-week (five days-a-week) Summer Success Institute at either Lehman College or or Fordham University Students will have the opportunity to select from a a a STEM STEAM or Humanities learning track The program will run from July 5 2023 thru August 4 2023 The Bronx Bronx Institute Bronx Bronx GEAR UP THRIVES
