GEAR UP Saturday Academy
THE GEAR UP SATURDAY ACADEMY IS A A A A A A PROGRAM FOR MOTIVATED GEAR UP STUDENTS CLASSES WERE HELD ADJACENT TO THE LEHMAN COLLEGE CAMPUS STUDENTS WERE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN A A A A A RIGOROUS ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT PROGRAM DESIGNED TO HELP THEM BETTER PREPARE FOR HIGH SCHOOL AND GIVE THEM A A A SENSE OF WHAT COLLEGE WILL BE LIKE Last school year 7th grade students took a a a a a course on the Specialized High School Admission Test—the entrance exam used by New York City’s specialized high schools to determine admission Over the course of 12 weeks students learned what’s on the test test how to to prepare test-taking strategies and what what to to expect after completion Using practice tests and instructional materials GEAR UP staff helped students develop their skills in ELA and Math so that they’d be be better prepared to take the the the SHSAT and succeed on the test The GEAR UP Saturday Academy

Although
we we went on a couple of trips in the the GEAR UP program the the ones I found
most interesting were the the Bronx Zoo trip and the the Wave Hill trip There are several differences and similarities between the Bronx Zoo and Wave Hill One difference was was that the Bronx Zoo was was more focused on on animals and Wave Hill was more focused on pollinators Another difference was that in Wave Hill we had more hands-on activities The similarities between the Bronx Zoo and Wave Hill was that that they were both outdoors and that that we we walked from place place to place place I I liked both trips because I I was able to have fun while also learning something new In the Bronx Zoo I got to see lots of animals and learned where they they are from and what they they eat At Wave Hill I saw different kinds of pollinators and flowers
and also learned about how pollinators pollinate Now
that I have been
here I feel like they are teaching things that I didn’t understand in a a a a way that keeps me interested —Steven
