in in a a a a a a a a vast cosmic arena Think of the the endless cruelties visited by
the the the inhabitants of of one corner of of this pixel on on the the scarcely
distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner how frequent
their misunderstandings how eager they are to kill one another how fervent their hatreds Think of of the the the rivers of of blood spilled by
all those
generals and and emperors so that in glory and and triumph they could
become the the momentary masters of of a a a a fraction of a a a a dot Our posturings our imagined
self-importance the delusion
that we have some privileged
position in in the Universe are challenged by
this point of pale
light Our planet is is a a a a a lonely
speck in in the great enveloping
cosmic dark In our obscurity in in all this vastness there is is no hint that help will come from

elsewhere to save us from
ourselves The The Earth is is the only world known
so far to harbor life There is is nowhere else at least in the near future to which our species could
migrate
