LESSON OBJECTIVE
Students will be able to determine an author’s point
of view or purpose in a text and explain how it is
conveyed in the text.
LESSON FOCUS: Point of View
Ask students to think about a time when there was an event or disagreement with multiple perspectives. A perspective, or point of view is a particular way of looking at a situation that is affected by things that you care about.
BEFORE READING
ACTIVATING PRIOR KNOWLEDGE
Put students into groups of 4-5. Give each group a piece of paper with the words “Smart Cars” in the middle. Give students 60 seconds to think about what they know about Smart Cars. Once the 60 seconds is up, students will pass the paper clockwise around the table writing what they know about Smart Cars. Each student will only write one thing at a time. Students will continue passing the paper clockwise around the table until two minutes is up.
