Sydney might turn and perform a canary-like song for her audience. This would delight the crowd but could be frustrat- ing for the handler.
Karen started tracking with Sydney so they would have an event to pursue when the time came to retire from agility (not yet!). She passed her TD at age 10, and because Sydney now enjoys tracking almost as much as agility, they are now train- ing for the TDX. Karen and Sydney are also currently working on their MACH.
Terry Brown and Trekker
Terry Brown from Syracuse, New York, and Spellbound Beyond Belief VCD2, ASCA CDX, NAC, OGC (CH Propwash Manape’s Shoot-N-Star UD PT OA X CH Spellbound Razzle Dazzle, UD) are the third team to earn the level 2 Versatile Companion Dog title in 2004. When Terry got “Trek” as a one-year-old, his breeder Tracey Deemes warned him that the pup was a “handful,” but that was exactly what he wanted.
Terry says that he and Trek are both “high drive” by nature and not only enjoy but thrive on training and competing for multiple events. Trek has no problem tackling both TDX and VST obstacles on the same track in the morning, then heading for the training building to work on utility exercises followed by agility class at night. Because Trek is now showing the same enthusiasm for tracking as he does for agility, Terry hopes to one day achieve the Tracking Champion title that requires

both VST and TDX. Trek whines and cries when Terry gets out the tracking harness and remains totally focused on the track no matter what obstacles or distractions they encounter along the way. Trek shows the same enthusiasm for obedience, and Terry hopes to earn the Utility title and VCD3 in the near future. In addition to training Trek, Terry is an AKC agility judge and instructor, so many of his weekends are spent judg- ing instead of competing. He is also close to earning a VCD2 on a Siberian husky—now that is a true indication of an exceptional trainer!
Lisa Pattison and Lacey
You can read more about Lisa Pattison and Propwasheloradan Wildchild VCD2 AX HSAs TDI CGC STDds ASCA UD RS-N GS- N JS-N NAC NJC NGC DD TS (Fortyfive Ranch Bull Rustler x CH Propwash Cobbercrest Commotion) in several previous versatility articles. “Lacey” not only excels in herding, obedi- ence, tracking and agility, she also does draft dog and water dog events. Bred by Leslie Frank, Lacey is the perfect partner for her “energizer bunny” owner. Lisa describes her blue girl as a “greedy learner” who is a quick study when learning new skills and always enthusiastic about taking on new chal- lenges.
Lacey will turn nine this year but is nowhere close to retire- ment age. Lisa plans to pursue not only the VCD3 with her but also advanced draft dog and water dog titles. In Lisa’s spare time—when she’s not training three dogs in multiple events—she hopes to take up skijoring racing. In this event, Lisa would be on snow skis, harnessed to her dog, who would pull her as they race through the course. Lisa says her dogs are definitely up to the task, but she needs to learn to ski!
Congratulations to all these talented dogs and handlers on their achievements for 2004!
