Build a community for yourself by connecting with other artists and building relationships. You can start by joining Facebook groups for artists in your area. This way, you can talk about makeup and the industry, find job postings, and seek advice from other professional artists. Make sure to set notifications on for when somebody posts in the group. Comment on posts, and link your website or Instagram to offer your services. The more jobs you book, the bigger your network and portfolio will be, and the easier it will be to gain more clients and job opportunities.
A moodboard is a collection of images that display the makeup look that you are planning on doing. If you are pitching yourself to a photographer for TFP, send the photographer the moodboard, and then they will have an idea of what the goal is for the overall look and feel of the images. It is important that you also ask for a moodboard from a photographer so that you understand what they are going for as well.

Follow and support other makeup artists.
Use someone’s name when you email them.
Follow up by emailing, dm’ing, calling, or texting people after you meet them so that they remember you.
Ask people questions about themselves. People love to talk about themselves, and this will leave them feeling good about your interaction. Ask about their job, experience, or life.
Make a list to keep track of people that you have met and to store their contact information. Check in with people to stay connected and maintain the relationship.
Attend events in your industry by reaching out to brands for PR events.
Go to conventions in the industry. For example, generation beauty, Imats, etc.
Search hashtags on social media.
MOODBOARDS
Find inspiration: Look at images of makeup, clothes and accessories that inspire you. When you see something that resonates with you, save the image on Instagram or Pinterest, and then you can pull the image when you need it.
Colour theme: Pick a colour theme so that the photographer knows what background to choose. Pick a model: Find a model that goes with the look you are trying to achieve.
