PROBLEMATIC SKIN & WEDDINGS
If you have a client who has problematic skin, and their wedding date is far away, recommend that they start a skincare regimen at least 6 months prior to the wedding date or event. This will give the skin enough time to purge and heal. If the skin is more on the normal side, recommend that the bride try a hydrating facial and dermaplaning as this will allow makeup to go on very smoothly. A hydrating enzyme mask on the day of is also a great idea.
REMOVING A CLIENTS MAKEUP
Double cleansing is the number one thing to do. This means first cleansing with an oil or cream as that will remove most of the makeup. Then do a second cleanse with a face wash to ensure that all of the makeup is fully removed.
SKINCARE STEPS
REMOVE MAKEUP
You can use face wipes or a micellar water for this.
CLEANSE
This is the deeper cleanse that the skin needs after removing makeup. For clients, it’s often easier to have them cleanse their own face. Product recommendation: Philosophy 3 in 1 cleanser.
TONE
This is a very important step. People often think that their skin is clean after cleansing, which it mostly is on the surface, but toner removes anything that was left behind during the cleanse. You can use a cotton pad and just a little bit of product to wipe off any extra makeup or product in the pores.
MOISTURIZE
You can moisturize the skin before applying makeup using a lightweight cream or a serum. Some makeup artists like to use both, and this is fine as long as you are not using too much product on the face. It’s also extremely important to allow the skin to soak up all of the product before you apply makeup. If there is still too much product left over, blot it off before applying makeup.
EYE CREAM
Using a light eye cream after applying a face moisturizer is a great way to hydrate the under eye area where people often wrinkle easily. Like face products, allow this time to soak in before applying makeup on top.
LIPCARE
It’s always a good idea to use a lip exfoliator that also hydrates.
NOTES
*If you are using a hydrating mist: Use this before a moisturizer. The client can also use this throughout the day to refresh the skin. Recommended: Clinique or Glymed.
*Sunscreen: Though sunscreen is very important to wear every day, you have to be careful about this when applying makeup as some sunscreens leave a white cast.
*Exfoliating: This should be done by clients prior to the appointment. Most skincare professionals recommend using an exfoliator 3 times per week to remove dead skin cells and keep the skin fresh.
*Hyaluronic Acid: This is an amazing way to hydrate the skin. Recommended: The Ordinary makes an affordable one (however there are many great hyaluronic acids on the market).
