                AMERICAN PLAYERS THEATRE
American Players Theatre, known affectionately to the audience as APT, has been producing world-class theater in the Spring Green woods
for nearly 50 years. Each year from June through November, APT offers nine plays in rotating repertory on two stages – the 1,075-seat outdoor Hill Theatre, and the 200-seat, indoor Touchstone Theatre. Each theater offers comfortable seats, a concession stand for snacks and drinks (that you are welcome to take to your seat) and a gift shop. The 2025 Season on the Hill stage offers William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and
The Winter’s Tale, as well as Noël Coward’s comedy Fallen Angels, Nilo Cruz’s Pulitzer-Prize winning play
Anna in the Tropics and William
Inge’s American Classic Picnic. In the intimate Touchstone Theatre, the season starts with Yazmina Resa’s biting comedy, Art, followed by the world-premiere of The Death of Chuck Brown by Gavin Dillon Lawrence,
and Tribes by Nina Raine. Fall in the Touchstone will host the comedic thriller, The 39 Steps by Patrick Barlow. One of the largest outdoor classical theaters in the country, APT welcomes nearly 100,000 people each season.
The play around the play is just as important. With APT’s 110 acres of lush woods and prairie, picnicking before the performance has become a tradition. Audiences arrive early to indulge in a meal with friends
and family (gas grills are available first come, first served), before the performance. For those who don’t want to pack their own basket, they can order picnic meals prepared by Hubbard Avenue Diner, or attend select days for Barbecue by Fat Jacks. APT also offers more than two miles of hiking trails for folks who might want to walk off their meal before the show. And for those who want
to learn more about the production they’re about to see, APT offers Events Beyond the Plays, APT’s series of talks, tours and more.
