Top YAL Chapters
Northeast: Rutgers University-New Brunswick
The Rutgers University–New Brunswick chapter had a killer year. The chapter hosted a conservative speaker event on campus that elicited national media attention. They also hosted the most successful State Convention of the year, totaling over 200 attendees and starring special guest Congressman Ron Paul. Now with over 50 dues-paying members, they’re one of the largest chapters in the Northeast!
Southeast: University of North Carolina-Charlotte
The chapter at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte has done numerous events throughout the year. They hosted the NC State Convention and participated in several free speech events. One of their free speech events garnered over 800 petition signatures. They are constantly working to educate students on campus about the ideas of liberty. This year they received the Event of the Year award for the Southeast Region and we're expecting even greater things to come!
Mid-Atlantic: Michigan State University
The Michigan State University chapter hosted a plethora of events this year. This chapter is so dedicated to spreading the principles of liberty that they continued to recruit during a rainstorm when many other student organizations packed up and left. They had packed rooms for documentary screenings, co-hosted a “Criminals for Gun Free Zones” event mocking restrictive campus policies, and energized their campus with every event they hosted. This chapter was successful because they built a strong core leadership team with some of the most passionate activists. They will continue to spread the ideas of liberty on campus for years to come.
Midwest: University of Wisconsin-Green Bay
The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay chapter took the Midwest region by storm this year. As one of the largest chapters in the region, the group brought many members to the Wisconsin State Convention and International Students for Liberty Conference in Washington, DC. Their original "Making a Criminal" activism project educated students on criminal justice reform and had a strong showing on Freedom Day. This truly is a rockstar chapter!
Central: University of New Mexico
The University of New Mexico chapter hosted several successful events. They've knocked it out of the park with Incarceration Nation and several recruitment drives. These events got them two awards at the 2016 YAL National Convention. They were rewarded for hosting the best Event of the Year and being the best Chapter of the Year. The University of New Mexico made a splash on campus this year when they hosted a self-defense event that earned them great media coverage.
West: University of California-Riverside
University of California-Riverside was named the West region's Chapter of the Year at the 2016 YAL National Convention. Instead of spending their summer relaxing, they were on campus recruiting for their chapter. As a relatively young chapter, YAL at the University of California-Riverside hosted several events and garnered hundreds of sign ups. They are truly one of the best in the West!
