EDITORS NOTE
Welcome to the second issue of Blasting News for 2018. This bumper issue focuses on the intelligence embedded in AEL’s revolutionary technologies which ensure our continued leadership in providing smart blasting solutions for customers’ operations globally.
Our unwavering commitment to understanding and catering to our customer’s needs is solidified by the introduction of our latest pioneering technology, DigiDet, an electronic shock tube detonator offering precise initiation. Ashlin Pillay, AEL Product Manager for Electronics, tells us under the Specialist Speak banner how the timing benefits of DigiDet will bridge the detonator divide and provide ease of deployment for the customer.
The AEL on the Move section brings you AEL IQ shared at the 49th annual Institute of Quarrying (IOQ) Conference in Durban, South Africa, where Simon Tose, AEL Global Mining Optimisation Manager, shared key insights on international trends for managing airblast and blasting vibrations. We also share intelligence that runs deep at the Africa Down Under (ADU) Conference in Perth, Australia.
In our technical capability section, we cover the AEL WEETR Conference, a platform on which our explosives engineers and technical representatives come together to critically assess and share insights on how our daily intelliBlastTM conversation helps customers on their unique journey to optimal blast outcomes.
Safety is paramount to AEL’s operation. We aspire to operate sustainably, without harm to people, the environment and the communities in which we operate. Our safety philosophy is underpinned by a behavioural based safety programme called Zero Harm. In the AEL Safety section, we invite you to join us on our Zero Harm drive as we roll out the programme to various AEL sites in a collaborative effort with customers internationally.
