 RECOVERY
In the age of technology, new and improved at-home treatments are right at your fingertips. Massage tools are incredible for muscle recovery. The OPOVE or THERAGUN are my current favorite massage guns, and I use them daily for blood flow and soreness. POWERDOT provides self-use stim machines, like the ones physical therapists and doctors use. As science suggests, the more we move the better we feel, so even on rest days electronic muscle stimulation keeps you “moving” by gently contracting your muscles. NormaTech makes
great products too! There is so much available right now, and every tool just listed will aid in breaking down lactic acid and providing blood flow to get your body recovered quicker.
There are a few unique recovery experiences available outside of the home, but they come at a price. If you're able to work with an experienced masseuse, a deep tissue massage is amazing for making sure your muscles are loose and firing the correct ways. Float tanks, or the experience of floating in a dark tank filled with salt water, are growing in popularity as well. They can offer stress relief and relaxation, pain reduction, and better sleep. Lastly, cryotherapy. During this treatment your body is exposed to extremely cold temperatures for several minutes, while standing in an enclosed chamber. Some athletes use this
twice a day. You can notice the benefits after one session, but it's most effective when used regularly.
HYDRATION
Recovery is not possible without HYDRATION. Did you know 75% of people are dehydrated? I neglected this for so long, it just wasn't easy drinking 8-10 glasses of water a day. I didn't start paying attention to hydration, until my body forced me to. Dehydration has at times, led me to feel fatigued, which in turn, led to muscle strains, and missed time. It’s so important to stay hydrated, and I don't mean just drinking water.
