 SUPPORT SYSTEM
WHAT MEMBERS OF YOUR SUPPORT SYSTEM SHOULD DO
KEEP YOU ACCOUNTABLE
If you’re reading this book, then you're probably pretty serious about your athletic future. That doesn't mean that you won't get sidetracked, lazy, or even want to give up or quit. Setting your goals is important, but so is having someone to keep you accountable for them. Remember the story of my dad gently reminding me that someone was outworking me, while I sat on the couch playing video games. I sometimes needed that motivation. Who better to do it than the person who knew the most how badly I wanted to be great.
At times it was annoying, but I am so thankful he stayed on me. Thank you Dad!
On your journey to become Fully Equipped, make sure that you have someone to share your goals with so they can help motivate you to achieve them.
HELP PICK YOU UP
No matter who you are, or how strong you are mentally, there will be moments in sports and in life when you will feel weak. That’s when you need your support system the most. I always felt I needed the most support during a tough stretch of play, while injured, or when experiencing new beginnings. I can recall the uneasy feelings during my first year at UVA, and my first year in minor league ball, but I would not have made it past that first big league season without my support system in place.
Don’t be afraid to reach out to your support system when you’re feeling down. Sometimes, a quick pep talk is enough to get you going again!
