Common Conditions of the Hair, Skin & Scalp
DRY, FLAKY SCALP
DRY HAIR
Results from excessive use of alkaline substances that deplete hair of its natural oil and moisture.
OILY HAIR & SCALP
Caused by too much activity from
the sebaceous (oil) glands, which are connected to the follicle. Can be caused by eating too many fried foods and/or oily foods.
DANDRUFF
Often misread as dandruff. Usually a
dry, flaky scalp is the lack of sebum (oil) available to the scalp from the sebaceous (oil) glands. The flakes on the scalp
are usually dead skin cells that need exfoliating to enable the scalp to breathe to increase the blood flow to the hair.
UNDERNOURISHED HAIR
Caused by poor blood circulation to the scalp and build-up of product residue and/or dead skin cells.
SPLIT ENDS
Results from depleting your hair’s natural protein bonds from misuse of chemicals, heated styling tools or proper maintenance.
RAZOR BURN
NOTES:
Leading cause is the over-growth of a naturally occurring microscopic fungus on the scalp that causes irritation and results in acceleration of the amount and rate of flaking of dead skin cells.
RAZOR BUMPS
When cut really low, the hair never exits the follicle but, because of its naturally curly nature, curls back into the follicle causing fluid build-up and irritation.
An irritation and destructive scarring of the skin caused by using a blunt blade or not using proper technique. This causes hair pricks on the skin.
