       Hall of Irish Derby Legends
The Kildare Derby Festival Committee are pleased to welcome 1989 Irish Derby winner Old Vic into our Hall of Irish Derby Legends.
Old Vic trained by Sir Henry Cecil and ridden by American boy wonder Steve Cauthen proved a comprehensive winner of the 1989 Irish Derby beating a high class field.
Owner Sheikh Mohammed generously donated the prize money to commission a new all weather wood chip gallop called The Old Vic. It is the flagship gallop of the Curragh gallops. Positioned in front of the Stands it is 9 furlongs in length and climbs steadily to the top of the Flat Rath.
Winners of the best races at home and around the World have trained on the Old Vic including Sea the Stars, Sinndar, Harzand, Hardy Eustace and Numbersixvalverde to name just a few.
Non Curragh trainers also such as Willie Mullins, Gordon Elliot Joseph O'Brien are also regular users of Old Vic.
