COUNSELLING SERVICES
Here in Y.T.D.C we facilitate a therapeutic space for the learners. One-to-one and group sessions enable the learners to explore aspects of their lives and gain a sense of awareness. Unlocking feelings, by talking openly and freely. Talking like this is not always possible with family or friends, who are likely to be emotionally involved and have opinions and biases that may affect the discussion. The counselling sessions afford the learner an opportunity to express difficult feelings such as anger, resentment, guilt and fear in a confidential environment.
A therapeutic process occurs when the learner and counsellor set aside time to explore difficulties which may include the stressful or emotional feelings that may be facing the learner. The act of helping our learners to see things more clearly, possibly from a different viewpoint can enable them to focus on feelings, experiences or behaviour, with a goal of facilitating positive change. A relationship of trust is needed. Confidentiality is paramount to successful counselling.
Well-being classes are facilitated in which the counsellor may encourage the learners to examine parts of their lives that they may have found difficult or impossible to face before. There may be some exploration of early childhood experiences to throw some light on why an individual reacts or responds in certain ways in given situations. This is often followed by considering new coping skills and ways in which the learner may change or alter such behaviours in order to have a more positive impact on their lives.
Effective decisions lead to positive changes in attitude and/or behaviour. The ultimate aim of proving the counselling space is to enable the learners to make their own choices, reach their own decisions and act upon them.
