NOTE: We traditionally didn’t schedule December lectures because the performers had too many church commitments.
So there you have it, the entire year of lectures! It was, as said, our lifesaver and we enjoyed the preparation and the time together as much as the actual events. And in retrospect, I must say that things have strange and sometimes painful ways of working out. If I had not been fired, I never would have gotten to spend the last year and a half with Melvin as much as I did. It’s not every couple who can spend a six- hour iron infusion session at Baptist East preparing a lecture about Dietrich Buxtehude’s organ works! We did that scenario more than once during this year! I still maintain that nursing was never my calling because I just don’t have the patience for it. But Melvin didn’t want to be in that position either, so we kept saying for better, for worse and dealing with whatever nasty medical thing cropped up next. And crop up it did, way early in 2013 on January 27.
