ADJ. ASSOC. PROF. DERRICK AW
Adjunct Associate Professor Derrick Aw Chen Wee is a dermatologist and physician in Sengkang Health @ Alexandra Hospital.
Prior to joining Sengkang Health, he was the head of dermatology division in the National University Hospital (NUH), Singapore. As a senior consultant, his subspecialty interests are acne, psoriasis, eczema, urticaria, lasers for medical and cosmetic uses, minimally-invasive aesthetic procedures, cosmeceuticals and hospital dermatology.
He is highly involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education as a clinician-educator, co-chair of Collaborative Learning Cases (Phases I-II) committee, Master mentor of student house Patentia, and Associate with the Centre for Medical Education at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore.
In Sengkang Health, he oversees undergraduate medical training as the Associate Dean and the Clinical Education Lead (Medical). He sits in the Resident Advisory Committee for dermatology. With numerous teaching and achievement awards to his record, he has delivered more than 200 local and international lectures to medical students, residents, family physicians, dermatologists,
pharmacists, pharmaceutical companies, and the public excluding contributions to mass media queries on dermatological problems.
He played an instrumental role in training the first advanced practice nurse in dermatology in Singapore as well as co-producing several nurse-led clinic initiatives in NUH. He has written four books on clinical medicine (Look and Proceed, Armour 2002), clinical dermatology (Dermatology Picture MCQs, Armour 2005) and self- assessment in internal medicine (Modified Essay Questions for Medicine Finals Vol I and II, World Scientific 2012 and 2016).
He is a reviewer for several medical and nursing journals, Associate Editor for Journal of Dermatology & Cosmetology and sits in the Editorial board for Journal of Surgical Dermatology. He has participated as principal investigator in phase three clinical trials on urticaria, atopic eczema and psoriasis.
His scientific publications exceed 60 and conference papers exceed 70. A firm believer in faculty development, he facilitates workshops and drives interprofessional education; a key interest of his is the written assessment.
