BROADER SYSTEM: INSIGHT TEN
OVERFLOW
Families feel overwhelmed with NDIS. There is so much to do and they are unable to cope with issues that are out of their control. They feel overburdened and frustrated. Participants and their families become anxious and significantly stressed.
The NDIS system is complicated and made worse by the large amount of paperwork required annually. Given that most family members of participants are time and resource poor, they may not understand how to go about applying for funding, have full knowledge of what services they can access and how best to spend the funding.
There is a recurring pattern where participants and families discover that they have not fully leveraged the funding until it was too late. There is opportunity to take stock of the remaining funding and utilise any surplus funding more optimally.
POSSIBLE IDEAS AND CONSIDERATIONS WHEN DEVELOPING SOLUTIONS
• A subscription service to provide an up- to-date list of suppliers and practitioners who are recommended by MDS.
• Parents Meet up: Have regular learning sessions where parents can share their good and bad NDIS experiences, allowing others to learn from their experience.
The frustration of being burdened with a complicated system and unnecessary paperwork.
