ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE (CONTINUED)
 • One education-based immersion programme linking an Irish Partner school with communities in Kenya.
Due to the pandemic and timing of the receipt of Irish Aid’s grant
in late September, the full extent of the impact of Aidlink’s 2020 programmes is yet to be realised. Programme achievements to-date include:
Gender Equality
• 14 girl and disability-friendly latrine blocks installed in public primary schools (6 Turkana,
8 Kajiado).
• 7 water tanks (4 Turkana,
3 Kajiado) installed in target schools.
• Following a 40% increase in
teen pregnancies in Kenya,
a new care package has been
introduced within target
public primary schools to assist Emergencies
pregnant girls and new mothers
in their return to school.
• 192 community gatekeepers
(96 Kajiado, 96 Turkana) trained to advocate for the rights of children, especially girls and children with disabilities.
• Aidlink partners advocated for better policy and services provision for education, access to water and drought mitigation.
Education
• 16 primary schools (8 Turkana, 8 Kajiado) supported to create a more child-friendly and gender-sensitive school for more than 6,807 students.
• Radio messaging in relation to Covid-19 reached over 30,000 people across 4 counties Turkana, Kajiado, Narok and Samburu, Kenya.
• 33 community handwashing facilities installed in Uganda (25 Karamoja) and Kenya
(8 in Kibera) in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
• 32 Community facilitators (16 Turkana, 16 Kajiado) were trained.
• 32 handwashing facilities installed in target schools (24 Kajiado, 8 Turkana).
• 2 girl and disability-friendly latrine blocks and semi- permanent classrooms installed in community schools in Karamoja, Uganda.
• 28 students and their teachers from Ireland travelled to Kenya as part of an education-based immersion programme. Participants recorded learning in knowledge, values and attitudes, skills, and action, including teamwork and human rights.
Livelihoods
• 2 community farms established (Turkana).
