 Aidlink Financial Statements 2023
NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS
For the financial year ended 31 December 2023
POST BALANCE SHEET EVENTS
Following the devastating impact of drought in 2023, Kenya has experienced catastrophic flooding in 2024. According to government reports, over 200 people in were killed between March and May 2024. The El Nino event caused by climate change has affected more than 190,000 people in the region and caused the government to order temporary evacuation orders in some communities.
In March 2024, Aidlink received approval notification from Irish Aid for a new project Let Children Learn for the next five years (a total of €2 million). The project is closely aligned with Aidlink’s strategic pillars as it focuses on some of the most disadvantaged communities in Kenya, the nomadic pastoralist of Turkana and Masai. Essential needs will be met through education, water and sanitation and school feeding. The project specifically targets women and girls through improved educational outcomes and tackling traditional social norms and barriers including early marriage and FGM.
We warmly welcomed the first tranche (€60,000) of a significant donation of €100,000 in March 2024 from a private donor. This allowed us to launch ‘Every Girl in Class’ with our partner Girl Child Network in May 2024. This project will include new classrooms in each of 4 schools and one dormitory benefitting four schools and 1,200 children in rural Kenya.
Aidlink delivered on two successful immersion trips in early 2024 and has two more planned before year end.
The Board has approved projections which indicate a surplus on unrestricted funds which provides for operational costs cover of greater than 6 months in line with Aidlink’s reserve policy.
The Directors of Aidlink are grateful for the continued support of Irish Aid and all our donors private and corporate.
