Eventually, Swist decides that the building may be allowed to survive since, he suggests playfully, Lovett Pearce’s work – the finest parliament building in Europe at the time – will fit in with his own plans for the city:
Yet should Swiſt endow the schools For his lunatics and fools,
With a rood or two of land,
I allow the pile may stand. (ll. 35-38)
