There are never enough words to thank each friend and family member who has given their time, support and comfort in the last two months when Appa was taken ill, especially in the last month during the time of mourning. The thoughtful and kind messages of condolences in person, by card, by phone, and by the floral tributes reminded us how much Appa will be missed by many. We are appreciative of the many organisations that offered tributes to Appa and his services. We were pleased that Appa's funeral on 31st August 2017 was beautifully organised with the last funeral rites performed with the help of the Saiva Munnetta Sangam.
We are greatly indebted to our family friend and relative Mr. Sithamparapillai (Thanam uncle) for his expert advice, and taking a leading role in the organisation of Appa's funeral arrangements, the anthietti on 25th September 2017 and the function at Highgate Murugan Temple on 1st October 2017. And to Appa's many nieces and nephews, many of whom travelled far to help us at short notice. The family was greatly touched by the large turnout at the crematorium to pay their last respects to Appa.
Appa’s ashes were scattered at Keerimalai, Jaffna by Kannan on 20th September 2017, with the support of Mrs. Anusha Muralitharan and friends from Jaffna. In memory of Appa, a mango tree and an avocado tree were planted at ‘Vaikundam’, our house in Jaffna, on 25 September 2017.
In the last weeks, many friends and family have been bringing food to our home and stayed with Amma — thank you. Appa’s last days at the hospital were made as comfortable as possible and the family thanks the ICU staff at Whipps Cross University Hospital and especially to Dharshi Radhakrishnan. We are grateful to the friends and family who contributed to this booklet with their stories and to the many that donated to CANE Cancer Aid for North & East of Sri Lanka (CANE).
Finally, a special thank you to Ramani Vaheesan for her help with this booklet, Kumaran Ramachandran for the family tree, and to the families of Manivannan, Vaheesan, Vaikunthanathan and Radhakrishnan for their support at the different events.
