SUBJECT-BASED BANDING (SBB) FOR SECONDARY ONE STUDENTS
Springfield Secondary School is one of the phase one schools to implement subject-based banding (SBB) with Secondary One students in 2020. The objectives of the SBB are as follow:
 To better cater to the strengths of Springfielders in different subjects (English, Mathematics, Science and Mother Tongue Languages)
 To help each Springfielder find fulfilment in his/her learning and be motivated to excel in the subject(s) he/she is good at
Secondary One students posted to the N(A) and N(T) Courses may be offered EL/Math/Sc/MTL at a higher level, based on their PSLE Subject grades.
 Eligibility Criteria
There are 3 intakes of SBB Students.
1st SBB Intake – After Secondary One Posting

 Springfielders who are not offered SBB based on their PSLE subject grades but subsequently perform well in specific subjects and in the overall average may be offered EL/MA/Sc/MTL at a higher level
 Offer will be made at the middle or end of the academic year Additional Points to take note
 Springfielders should take no more than 3 subjects at higher level so as to ensure that they can cope with the overall academic demands
 Springfielders offering higher level subjects will sit for the Examinations at the higher level. For example, SBB MT Students from the N(A) course will sit for the same Exp Exam Paper as their peers from the Exp course

Process for taking up option
o Eligible students would be given an option letter for respective subjects during Secondary One Registration
o Springfielders who wish to take up option with the School are to submit the completed form to the General Office by the deadline stated on the option letter
Those who are eligible but not keen to take up this option will still need to submit the form 2nd and 3rd SBB Intake
