 SERVING AS ONE 2019-2020
WELCOME
Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it. Hebrews 13:2
Welcome ministries create a safe, friendly, warm, and caring environment for all to know they are loved. We work to show the love of Jesus to all people who walk through the doors. We do this with handshakes, an embrace, reaching out, and with an approachable and open spirit.
We continually strive to be a welcoming congregation. Our mission to Seek, Nurture and Transform starts the moment when one walks in the door to the days, months, and years that follow. There are multiple ways to help provide a hospitable place to worship for first time visitors, returning guests, and members alike. Serving in any one of these areas is an incredible opportunity to show love and grow in your relationship with Jesus Christ.
Greeters welcome each person who comes to church with a smile and handshake by standing at entry doors.
Ushers greet the congregation, hand out bulletins, help people find seating, collect the offering and other duties for worship services.
Spotters watch for new and returning guests in the lobby and offer to sit with them to provide guidance through the worship service.
Parking Lot Attendants assist people parking and entering the building for our large events and worship services such as Christmas and Easter.
Bus Drivers are trained individuals who drive the bus for various ministry events.
SRUMC Muggers deliver mugs and welcome packets to first time guests.
Connection Corner Servants
welcome and assist church members and visitors with questions and resource materials about the church during Sunday morning services.
Café/Fellowship Teams
serve coffee and donuts in the café for Sunday morning worship.
Meal Preparation Teams
set-up, serve and clean up meals during a multitude of events that occur throughout the year.
In 2019-2020, Welcome Ministries will Serve As One by:
• Creating training events for people wanting to serve in Welcome Ministries.
• Recruiting and developing servant-leaders for the café, kitchen, and bus ministries.
• Increasing the number of Sunday morning welcome servants.
• Developing and implementing ways for our Vietnamese congregation to serve at Scioto Ridge.
As we continue to grow, our need for servants expands as well. Where can you serve?
*If you are interested in learning about or serving in any capacity with Welcome Ministries, please contact Brandy Merryman at brandy@srumc.org.
“I serve by delivering welcome mugs to people who have recently visited Scioto Ridge. One evening, while delivering a welcome mug to a first- time visitor, a mom came to the door who was clearly having a terrible day. She shared with me the difficulties she had that day and as I listened, she broke down in tears. She said, “God must have sent you to me today, Sue. I needed someone to be with me and listen.” -Sue Carman
