    President’s letter
 February 2020
A new decade opens and we have so much to which we can look forward and anticipate with positive feelings. We have witnessed a moment in history, which will take us down an unknown and perhaps at times rocky path. Brexit was declared official on 31st January. Whether you celebrate that or regret the decision, no one can deny that a new page in history has been turned and we can watch the ‘unknown’ unfold and be part of it. More of that later.
We are almost in a state of readiness to take a new path with the RCVS. However, the decision of committee so far has been to await the decision of the Australian Ombudsman on the seemingly scandalous NHMRC affair. The committee is reviewing that decision monthly, as we don’t know how long that process will take. Australia has its own huge challenges to face just now, so we cannot rely on alacrity.
We have a new secretary, who has taken on the mantle, following the tragic loss of Stu. Nazrene [Moosa] will make a cheerful, capable, friendly and efficient contribution to the business and activities of the BAHVS henceforward and put her own stamp on its modus operandi. Welcome to the committee Nazrene and thanks for taking on the job.
We also have our new Treasurer, Sara [Fox-Chapman], from the USA, who was elected at the AGM last autumn. She has a great energy and presence and has been a fantastic supporter of the BAHVS down the years.
