The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distin- guished Flying Cross to Specialist Four Cecil E. James for heroism while partici- pating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary action above and beyond the call of duty on 5 September 1969 while serving as an Aerial Observer with the Air Cavalry Troop,
11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, in the Republic of Vietnam. On that date, he was flying in a light observation helicopter northwest of Loc Ninh when suddenly the aircraft was struck by intense enemy fire, causing considerable damage to the aircraft and wounding the Pilot and Spe- cialist James. Since the Pilot was unable to operate the aircraft controls, Specialist James, though he had never piloted a helicopter before, took over the controls. Ignoring his wounds, he flew the partially disabled aircraft to its base of operations where he made a safe landing. Specialist Four James’ actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Command- er Daniel E. Moore for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Patrol Plane Commander of a Navy Bomber Plane in action against enemy Japanese forces in the Forward Pacific War Area on December 17, 1944. Diving on two enemy planes from above, Lieutenant Commander (then Lieutenant) Moore engaged them both simultane-
ously and, by his skillful maneuvering and accurate gunfire, sent the hostile aircraft crashing to the sea in flames. His airmanship, courage and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Commander Daniel E. Moore for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Commander of a Patrol Plane in Patrol Bombing Squadron One Hundred Seventeen during operations against enemy Japanese forces in the Pacific War Area from December 20, 1944 to February 27, 1945. Completing his twentieth mission during this period, Lieutenant Commander (then Lieutenant) Moore contributed materially to the success of his squad- ron. His courage and gallant devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Glenn J. Beadle for extraordi- nary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a Flight Leader in a flight of
four (4) F-86 type aircraft, 18th Fighter Bomber Wing, Fifth Air Force, on 10 July 1953.
Lieutenant Beadle displayed exceptional airmanship and leadership while navigating his
flight direct to the target area, West of Chorwon, Korea. Lieutenant Beadle quickly identi-
fied the target and initiated a devastating attack on enemy personnel shelters, mortar posi-
tions and automatic weapons positions. Despite intense anti-aircraft and small arms fire,
Lieutenant Beadle strafed with unerring accuracy and dropped his bombs directly on the
target area, accurately marking it for the remainder of his flight. Because of Lieutenant Beadle’s superb airmanship and exceptional dive- bombing skill, three (3) enemy caves were closed, three (3) large secondary explosions were observed, four (4) mortar positions were de- stroyed and one hundred and fifty (150) yards of enemy trench line were destroyed. As a result of this highly successful mission, vital ene- my troop concentration and mortar positions were destroyed, seriously hampering the enemy’s potential in that sector at a time when the enemy was threatening to break through United Nations frontline positions. Throughout his entire combat tour, Lieutenant Beadle has displayed outstanding leadership, airmanship and dive-bombing skill in destroying the enemy. Through his skill, courage and devotion to duty, Lieutenant Beadle has brought great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Daniel J. Mullin for distinguished and meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight in the Middle East Theater of Operations. Lieutenant Mullin, as Pilot on heavy bombardment aircraft participating in operations
against the enemy, materially contributed to the successful invasion of Sicily and to the strategic bombing of Italy and other parts of Europe and rendered service vital to the success of the 98th Bombardment Group in its combat operations against the enemy. His courage, skill and steadfast devotion to duty reflect great credit upon himself and our Army Air Force.
