Chairman’s Message
Bruce Huffman
The DFC Society is at a very good place as we approach this holiday season.
Our News Magazine has met with widespread acceptance among our membership, our financial strength and long-term investments are sound, chapter development is yielding results, and membership is on an uptick.
A widespread social media campaign that established our presence on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram has raised the visibility about the incredible valor and achievements of our members to an audience that heretofore never knew of our existence.
As we continue to publish those vignettes about our members as a prelude to the upcoming Dayton/Fairborn 2019 Reunion, I encourage each of you to copy and share these wonderful stories with your social media followers to even further extend our reach.
This issue of our News Magazine contains a simple link to the DFC Society page on the Prior Service website that will allow you and your loved ones to shop for a
host of DFC Society branded items that you can bolt to your car, wear with pride, or share with those that appreciate your achievements. The challenge coins are back and available and the featured branded items reflect the requests from you about those things you said were needed. The commercial arrangement between our Society and Prior Service is a favorable one and as you shop for your holiday gifts, do so with the knowledge that every dollar you spend benefits the good work of our Society and improves our balance sheet.
As you may have noticed in our previous issue, we have begun to provide copies of “On Heroic Wings” to newly minted United States Marine Corps Aviators at their winging ceremonies. This was made possible through the generous gift from Raytheon as a corporate sponsor. We are working to extend this program to other branches and increase our corporate sponsorship base. We hope to have more news to share on this exciting program in the Spring Edition. There is no better gift to give a new pilot than the stories of achievement of those on whose shoulders they will stand, as long as they may wear those wings they’ve worked so hard to earn.
Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanza or just the holidays are a time to close ranks around those that you love and share joy with one another. From the Bible, Acts: 20:35 (King James Version) comes the quote ‘it is far better to give than to receive.’ I would hope you keep this in your hearts as you consider the DFC Society and our Legacy Challenge Campaign among your thoughts as you give graciously in the year ahead.
Lastly, from my family to each of our members and your family, Merry Christmas and Joyous New Year ahead! – Bruce Huffman
