His work has filled a huge need of the DFC Society by capturing on video and in writing the stories of America's DFC recipients.
He didn't ask for payment. As a professional historian he saw
a need, he cared, and he has been capturing stories now for Years. His work was so appreciated by the Society's National Board of Directors that Barry Lanman was awarded one of the few Honorary Memberships in the Society. Dr. Lanman did not stop with oral histories, he designed and edited, with the profes- sional help of Dr. Laura Wendling, the first DFC book which will be published in November 2011, containing DFC stories from WWII, Korean War, Vietnam War and Middle East Wars. And he didn't stop with creating our first book, he will be a member of the team that screen writes for the first film series covering stories of DFC Missions.
Dr. Lanman, we salute you . You have created major positive milestones for our Society and insured that the legacy of DFC fliers of America will be available to future generations.

(C of C) of the 355
-Monthan AFB, Arizona. Col Samuel P. Milam, the Commander of the 355th Operations Group officiated at the ceremony. This C of C has to be a first in the history of the U.S. Air Force as Lt Col Andra “Pop Tart” V.P. Kniep relinquished command to Lt Col Kim “Killer Chick” N. Campbell. While I am not sure if this is the first time in the U.S. Air Force that one female has relieved another female as Commanding Officer of a squadron, I would be willing to bet that this is the first time in history that a female pilot who was awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross has relieved another female pilot who was also a Distinguished Flying Cross recipi- ent.

Operations Support Squadron at Davis
Those of you who attended the 2010 DFCS Convention in River- side heard Andra Kniep riveting description of her heroic actions in Afghanistan in March 2002 while flying the A-10 for which she was awarded two DFCs. Her citations were also in the Win- ter 2010 edition of this magazine. Andra is married to Lt Col Scott Kniep who is also an A-10 Warthog pilot and they are the proud parents of twin four year old boys, Zach and Jake, who really enjoyed being at the C of C. Andra is now attending the Industrial College of the Armed Forces in Washington, DC while Scott is currently manning a desk in the Pentagon. They both would rather be manning an A-10 but are happy that they are at home at night with their boys.
You also might remember the news reports when Lt Col Kim Campbell was awarded a DFC for her heroic actions in Iraq in April 2003 also flying the A-10 but if you missed the news then, Kim’s citation is in the Spring 2009 edition of the DFCS Maga- zine. In addition, Kim’s husband, Lt Col Scott “Soup” Campbell not only was awarded three DFCs for his heroic actions flying the A-10 in Afghanistan in March 2002 but is the Commanding Officer of the 358th Fighter Squadron flying A-10s. Yes, it is not a typo, both Andra’s husband and Kim’s husband are named Scott and both families are the best of friends. Scott Campbell’s cita- tions are also in the Spring 2009 magazine and there are addi- tional stories about the Campbells in that edition as well as in the Winter 2008 edition. The Campbell’s two year old son Colin also attended the C of C along with Kim’s parents so it was a real family affair. I feel very fortune to personally know all three of these heroes and really appreciate the fact that all three are also
members of the Distinguished Flying Cross Society .
