In addition to having the invaluable experience of Dr. Barry Lanman, the DFC Society is doubly blessed by having the expertise of Dr. Laura M. Wendling as a coauthor of the forthcoming historical DFC book “On Heroic Wings: Stories of the Distinguished Flying Cross”
Dr. Laura M. Wendling is a Professor in the College of Education, Health and Human Services at California State University San Marcos, California. She recently concluded six years as the National Director of the Consortium of Oral History Educators. Dr. Wendling has published widely in the areas of oral history as an educational methodology, social studies curriculum and instruction, children’s learn- ing in museums and art education. She is the recipient of several honors including the Brakebill Distinguished Professor Award for excellence in teaching, research and service.
Dr. Lanman and Dr. Wendling have worked and published together for a decade. Their previous book, Preparing the Next Generation of Oral Historians: An Anthology of Oral History Education was pub- lished in 2006. The Oral History Association recognized the professors in 2008 for their significant con- tributions to the field of oral history education by honoring them with OHA’s Postsecondary Teaching Award.
Dr. Wendling’s work has not only supported the DFC Society Oral History Program through the years but her experience and expertise has been a significant factor in ensuring that the book is not only ac- curate but also pleasing to the reader. She has spent countless hours on the DFC book for the last sev- eral years in addition to her normal tasks of lecturing and guiding new teachers in classes at California State University San Marcos. She is very innovative and thorough and the DFC Society is extremely priv- ileged to have her as a coauthor on this important undertaking. Most people don’t comprehend the tremendous amount of work involved in producing a significant historical document that is both accu- rate and interesting. Dr. Wendling, thank you for your strong support of the DFC Society and for your great efforts in creating this tremendous book that will benefit the DFC Society in so many ways.
