There is documented value of creative arts in physical and emotional rehabilitation. Behavior change is accomplished when we engage both sides of the brain. Healthcare providers, mental health professionals, educators and Veterans’ organizations have seen the positive impact of art, music, dance and creative writing in concert with more traditional therapies. These non-invasive and non-medication-based activities can reduce healthcare costs, promote improved cognition and concentration, improve communication skills and reduce depression. Overall, arts programming can reduce the time individuals spend in medical care and increase quality of life.
Task Force: ISO is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that engages and inspires Veterans through photography. Through our programs, Veterans gain purpose through activity and self-discovery and build community through continued mentorship and support. Expanding on the concept of its predecessor organization, Task Force has three program pillars – IMAGING: Event Photography, creating positive imagery of Veterans and showcasing their resilience; SUPPORT: Photography Training, using self-discovery through the creative arts to uncover and address issues that Veterans are coping with; and OUTREACH: Community Networking, engaging with other non-profits to foster connection and collaboration and ensure Veterans a pathway to success.
Today, while there are many Veterans’ organizations working in the creative arts, Task Force: ISO is the only organization in the U.S. that uses education and photography to foster engagement and community. Through our IMAGING program, we support more than 20 non-profit organizations across the United States with professional imagery. In 2017, this resulted in positive images of over 2,000 individual Veterans at 34 events. Currently, Task Force: ISO has professional photographer volunteers in seven states (CO,
