left to right, along with weight, sets up a rhythmic movement that can affect brain rhythms. Engaging the brain with attention on numerous positive sensations, thoughts, intentions, at the very least helps distract one from thinking about negative emotions.
Tai Chi trains the mind to harmonize movement of energy and physical movement:
Sixth, in Tai Chi we are training the mind to: 1) increase awareness of the sensation of internal energy (qi) in the body; 2) direct the internal energy to flow in harmony with the physical movement; 3) allow the physical movement to follow the mentally directed energy flow, and; 4) ultimately cultivate awareness of the energetic movement in the space (universe) surrounding the movement. A person who trains mind-body-spirit on this level is learning to live as a spiritual/energy being. We are tapping into a direct internal experience of energy, light and love.
An example of this training begins with practicing Qi Circles (pronounced 'chee' circles) which are Qigong movements that include something like rolling an imaginary ball in circles in various directions in the abdomen and chest. These circular movements improve blood circulation to the digestive organs, kidneys, and other abdominal organs directly and can be practiced sitting in a chair or incorporated into other movements.
Qi Circles specifically increase blood circulation to reproductive organs, bladder, prostate and change the state (tone) of the pelvic floor. These exercises can relieve incontinence and greatly improve sexual function. This is ancient training from Wu Style Tai Chi for cultivating energy in the middle and lower dantian (energy centers located in the heart and abdomen) and kidneys. The exercises open and balance energy flow in the meridians which are the channels in the body and limbs in which energy flows.
