Regardless of its name, the research, and program that was instituted at Walter Reed, was hugely successful. As a result, research has continued, with over 35 studies completed to date (2018), and more on the way. Research has proven the ability of iRest to address symptoms of PTSD, TBI, depression, pain, and sleep related issues, as well people undergoing treatment for cancer and MS. iRest is currently supporting Active Duty, Veterans, and families of service members in over 85 VA and military settings across the United States, as well as in Canada, Australia, Germany, and the UK. With now over 4,000 trained iRest teachers, the current number of facilities offering iRest include military hospitals and bases, Veterans' hospitals and facilities, and non-military organizations throughout the world. And in 2010, as a result of the research with iRest, the U.S. Army Surgeon General, and Defense Centers of Excellence declared Yoga Nidra a complementary Alternative Medicine (CAM) in the treatment of PTSD and chronic pain.
