Psychiatrically supervised and administered Ketamine has proven to be very effective on patients with depression. Whether the depression is related to PTSD, OCD, Post-Partum Depression, Bi-Polar Disorder or other major depressive disorders, the administration of Ketamine IV therapy is providing favorable results. It impacts both mood and anxiety and can result in positive treatment outcomes for people suffering from these afflictions.
Since the late 1960s Ketamine has been used as an FDA-approved anesthetic medication. But amongst the average person, Ketamine is best known as a party drug when used illegally to garner a hallucinatory effect. When Ketamine is not abused and is administered by a well- trained psychiatrist, Ketamine can help with symptoms like moodiness, decreased concentration, low self-esteem, impaired sleep, decreased sexual desire, impaired appetite and suicidal thoughts. Several scientific studies, including those conducted at Yale University and the National Institute of Mental Health, have shown that even a single low dose of intravenously administered Ketamine can dramatically improve symptoms associated with depression.
I have used Ketamine for its psychotomimetic properties since 2015. This medication can alleviate suicidal thoughts and act more quickly than many antidepressants. While 72 to 75 percent of my patients treated with Ketamine has a positive response, Ketamine alone does not always achieve the desired result. It is not magic but neither is genomic testing. After isolating neurobehavioral difficulties we are dealing with, we then develop a treatment program for the patient using a combination of treatment protocols, eventually getting to a place where additional treatment, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, can actually become a beneficial tool in recovery.
