“Thousands of our post-9/11 Veterans carry the invisible burden of post-traumatic stress, and there is an overwhelming need to expand the available treatment options.” - Ron DeSantis
Courtenay: One thing that has taken me a while to comfortable with after my Afghanistan deployment is driving. What I mean is that I haven’t been very comfortable with driving since after I got back and if I am driving with my spouse in the car his anxiety, totally unfounded from my point-of-view, just makes things worse.
I do understand that my anxiety with driving combines with hyper-awareness and adrenaline...and levels of dopamine...a recipe that’s probably not the greatest for driving for me personally.
I admit I have developed a bit of a lead foot...but I think that is connected to my not realizing that I let the stress of others driving recklessly translate into my brain as my being threatened...which then activates the fight or flight response.
Of course there are also times when my hubby’s driving causes me more stress than necessary...a lot of times...way more than I will admit!
I have NEVER had a speeding ticket...him...another story altogether!
