 him to raise a pack of Wolves himself, socialize them to meet people and let the Wolves touch their hearts as they had touched his.
Together, we founded an Educational Non-Profit Organization called Shadowland Foundation whose mission is to “Educate not Eradicate.” To be honest with you, I did not know Wolves or anything about them until we met and raised these wild creatures as our own. It has been the single greatest contribution I have made in my life and started a healing process so deep I could never have dreamt it to be possible.
Mind you, I was never in the armed forces nor was my husband Paul. Although we do not believe anyone escapes the ravages of war, the wounds of the warrior leave a legacy behind; affecting all those who have suffered those wounds, their families, their communities and all the rest of us too. For both Paul and I, our programs had to include our Wolves with Veterans and Active Duty service members.
Paul’s father had two Purple Hearts from his time fighting in Korea. Apparently, after escaping death once, he healed and got sent back into battle again. This time his entire platoon was killed. He was the lone survivor saved only because his fellow soldiers fell on top of him when they died. As with all Soldiers at the time, they sent him home to his family with his life without acknowledging or talking about his unseen wounds.
“Shell Shock” I believe is what they called it when they would talk about it at all. Paul’s grandfather told him little except that they had to watch his father carefully, especially at night. He would wake up thinking he was back in Korea, in battle; and he grabbed a weapon once and went to battle in the quiet and quaint neighborhood of
