experience was in 2017 at the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) CAM event, in San Diego for an Autocross event at Qualcomm Stadium. The second event I did was held in 2018 in Crows Landing, CA at the Naval Air Station base.
At the first event there were three former enlisted military members who had all served in the Middle East, and they were with a representative from VetMotorsports who was looking for a volunteer to help familiarize them with Autocross. They had rented a Camaro from one of the rental car companies and all three of them got a chance to compete. I got to serve as their mentor after having done the sport for over 40 years myself. I took them under my wing and explained everything I knew about Autocross, how to drive smoothly, and engaging in tactical driving (using finesse instead of just flooring it). They had mini-competitions between themselves, and I got to ride with each of them, and then they also got to take Autocross runs on their own. They all had a wonderful experience.
