“VR is so immersive and when it works, it draws you into the story in a way that is truly unique and powerful.” - Doug Liman
Courtenay: I understand the attraction of gaming in that you can step into an environment with a headset, a decent controller, a gaming system, and maybe even some online ‘buddies’...a ‘virtual community’ with which to play.
Virtual Reality (VR) takes this all a step further, incorporating vision and movement into a more realistic and relatable format for the brain to ‘believe’ and process.
It allows for deeper connections to be established on an emotional and mental processing basis, especially when it comes to VR therapy and trauma processing sessions.
One great thing about VR therapy is that, while the framework to the VR sessions, whether realistic of symbolic in nature, is based on an individuals trauma issues and does not require an individual to imagine their past experiences.
This offers a level of safety and control to individuals in trauma processing that can be key to the healing process.
