was acting up. I was kind of like, I don't need anybody...I can't rely on anybody...they don't understand.
My wife and the VA suggested a team sport...either basketball or softball. I got into both of them and did very well with wheelchair softball. Basketball not so much, because with my brain injury I don't have as much core awareness. You kind of have to 'read' where your opponent is going to be before they even go there. I would sometimes throw the ball to the opponent instead of my teammates. In 2015 I got Bronze on Wheelchair Softball. In 2016 we got Silver...and last year we got Gold. In March of 2018 I went out to Arizona to the USMES (United States Military Endurance Sports Group), they are actually the largest Active Duty and injured Veterans athletic group. They have over 150 countries and 15,000 Veterans. It was originally started by a couple of officers, and they wanted to train for some triathlon or biathlon and they ended up having their command sponsor it, then they started going to other commands and getting people to get involved in participating in local events and getting local sponsorship and now it's one of the largest organizations of its type. Well, they have their camp out in Tucson, AZ every year. This year, I went and I climbed Mount Lemon is 8,400 feet of climbing on a bike and Kitt Peak is 6,400 feet. I did both but it took me five and a half hours to climb Mount Lemon and a 6% to 8% hill grade and I placed third in my training team. I was at 55-58 mph coming back down Mount Lemon.
I was ready to do Face of America, which I do every year and which is from Arlington Cemetery to Gettysburg. It was started by a father who had a daughter who was a cross-country runner who was hit by a drunk driver and was left to die. She sustained a Traumatic Brain
