CHAPTER 27 - ONE OF THE GUYS
Remmy the Australian Cattle Dog and Valor the Golden Retriever: My PTSD Service Dog Remmy (short for Remington) was by my side for nine years. Unfortunately, in December of 2017, I got the bad news that he had a brain tumor and only had a short time left before the tumor took him from us. Two and a half years ago we signed up with Northwest Battle Buddies, because it would be a two year wait, and we had planned to allow Remmy to retire. We just hoped that Remmy lived long enough to meet Valor, our Service Dog in Training, and approve of her.
Last week the decision was made to take Remmy in and have him put to sleep. This was the hardest decision I had made ever. I made the appointment for Saturday morning (February 3rd, 2018). That Thursday was a night that Valor would come home for a visit. When we came in Remmy was laying in his bed and Valor went over to him and started to lick his head were the brain tumor was. She then picked up his bear and laid it between his legs and laid down next to him putting her paw on him.
