These events take place on Airfields mostly. The distance is usually about 1/2 mile to 3/4 mile. It’s more about agility than it is speed...and the average speed is usually only 50 m.p.h.. Of course the more tricked our and modified cars are going to hit higher speeds but the cars that we take out are typically not very high horsepower.
Mary Pozzi: I have been involved with VetMotorsports events twice now (as of September of 2018). Both of my experiences have been very positive. My first experience was in 2017 at the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) CAM event, in San Diego for an Autocross event at Qualcomm Stadium. The second event I did was held in 2018 in Crows Landing, CA at the Naval Air Station base.
At the first event there were three former enlisted military members who had all served in the Middle East, and they were with a representative from VetMotorsports who was looking for a volunteer to help familiarize them with Autocross. They had rented a Camaro from one of the rental car companies and all three of them got a chance to compete. I got to serve as their mentor after having done the sport for over 40 years myself. I took them under my wing and explained everything I knew about Autocross,
