xii It is important to note here that the suicide epidemic impacts all Veterans, not just those with PTSD. Although for purposes of this essay, the emphasis is specifically on Veterans with PTSD, there are many contributing factors to suicide. For example, in a JAMA Psychiatry study, it was noted that female soldiers were 2.6 times more likely than male soldiers to attempt suicide, and soldiers treated within the past month for a physical injury were three times more likely than those not treated for a physical injury to attempt suicide.
