Military Endurance Sports Group), they are actually the largest Active Duty and injured Veterans athletic group. They have over 150 countries and 15,000 Veterans. It was originally started by a couple of officers, and they wanted to train for some triathlon or biathlon and they ended up having their command sponsor it, then they started going to other commands and getting people to get involved in participating in local events and getting local sponsorship and now it's one of the largest organizations of its type. Well, they have their camp out in Tucson, AZ every year. This year, I went and I climbed Mount Lemon is 8,400 feet of climbing on a bike and Kitt Peak is 6,400 feet. I did both but it took me five and a half hours to climb Mount Lemon and a 6% to 8% hill grade and I placed third in my training team. I was at 55-58 mph coming back down Mount Lemon.
I was ready to do Face of America, which I do every year and which is from Arlington Cemetery to Gettysburg. It was started by a father who had a daughter who was a cross-country runner who was hit by a drunk driver and was left to die. She sustained a Traumatic Brain Injury. Her father decided to get a stroller to ride her around Arlington. Well, the ride he started evolved into the largest ride to honor Veterans, First Responders and it grew even larger despite a three-year break after 9/11. There are also generally at least 200 participants from Walter Reed. So, I did that ride in 2015, 2016 and 2017. On Saturdays I would usually ride to the gym, workout for two hours, do the spa, and then ride back home. I went out on April 9th to do my 24-mile training ride and my workout at Lifetime Fitness Gym, after which my wife would come and pick me up with my bike and we go out to lunch. So, my wife said she'd be about 5-10 minutes behind me and that she'd meet me at the gym. I have a panic button and an app. on my phone in case of emergencies and, if I am stationary and don't move for about two minutes a panic alarm will be sent to my wife. So, I am never really left alone.
